The Expedition Starts Here!
Expedition Aircraft is a division of Found Aircraft Canada Inc., which started producing rugged backcountry aircraft in 1996. Expedition Aircraft has a single purpose: to design and build the toughest and most versatile aircraft in the world with industry leading performance and payloads.
Expedition Aircraft can trace its roots back to the 1940’s. The original company, Found Brothers Aviation Ltd., was established in 1946 to design and build rugged, high performance aircraft. Based on experience gained from bush operations in northern Canada, around the Mackenzie River to the Arctic coast, the first aircraft, the FBA-2C, was certified in Canada and United States in 1964. The aircraft was designed to operate on wheels, skis and floats and to withstand the rugged environment of the undeveloped regions of North America's bush country. Over the next forty years, the FBA-2C developed a legendary reputation in Canada's remote northern territories as a safe, rugged, reliable, and economical aircraft.
In 1996, Found Aircraft Development Inc. acquired the rights to the FBA-2C and started to develop and produce an improved model designated as the FBA-2C2 Bush Hawk-XP. Consultants brought in to improve the design included DeHavilland’s former V.P. Engineering and Director of Research. The Bush Hawk-XP was certified by Transport Canada in March, 1999 and by the FAA in March, 2000. The majority of the Bush Hawk-XP’s are located in the backcountry of Alaska, Canada and in the Pacific Northwest, with most of them fitted for floats and skis.
The Expedition line of aircraft was launched at EAA Air Venture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 2007. The E350 received Canadian Type Certification on July 29th, 2008 and FAA Certification on December 23rd, 2008. The E350 is Found Aircraft’s foray into the General Aviation market offering all pilots a rugged, high performance, high useful load everyday aircraft. Production of the E350 began in 2009.
